Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian was born in Canada and raised in the U.S. She's been an editor since the year 1995. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over a decade. She is the creator and director of executive for Feminist Frequency A scholarly non-profit website that explores representations of women in popular culture narratives. In her efforts to dispel the myths associated with women in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to the targeted harassment of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online space. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in Social and Political Thinking from York University, is a popular public speaker. She has spoken at the TEDxWomen festival as well as United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. She was fascinated by gender issues and feminism since a early stage of her life. In 2009, when she was still studying at university she started her Feminist Frequency website. She had a plan to launch an internet series that examined gender representation in games, but was the target of a harassment campaign online. But the assault did be a deterrent, but it was a boost to her determination as a feminist critic of media. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to the cause of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian is an award nominated media critic as well as the founder of Feminist Frequency an educational nonprofit focused on the portrayal of women in pop cultural and the narratives that surround them.
