
DeWitt first appeared on stage when she was 13. DeWitt graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor's degree in Arts. In her summer production she was persuaded by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was granted the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship as well as the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While attending UCLA, she worked as a secretary, completing her TV debut in an episode of Baretta.Contrary to rumors that she was taught by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has claimed that the two have never had a conversation. DeWitt is most well-known for her part in the series Three's Company's run from 1977 to 1984 as Janet Wood. This was a job that she got after being cast in the pilot episode that followed. Janet was also in an episode of the show The Ropers which she was a part in in 1979. DeWitt made her acting debut in the episode 1984 of Three's Company. Acting was her first foray back on stage in June of 1991 when she appeared on a Noises Off production at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She also appeared in Spring Fling, the 1995 TV comedy. Pinky and the Brain featured an actress who was modelled after her voiced by another actress in 1997. The actress was in the episode Cybill and also made an appearance on Living Single's last episode. She's appeared in TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
